Never had one post Tx. Had a few scans with contrast but no PETs other than 2 dogs, 8 cats and a rab.

Mostly depends upon the doctors. I had Petscans at 3 months and 6 months out (my RO & MO) and a MRI within a month (ENT).
In my case both the Petscans were worthless, falsely indicating cancer on the right side while the MRI was clear. But that is common for Base of Tongue cancer patients. Subsequent Petscans completely missed the tumor recurrence on the left side, but an MRI caught it. I wish my doctors had been as knowledgeable as David's appear to have been about BOT Petscan false positives and never ordered any on me.
The above is supposed to be reassuring to you in case the doctors do not order a Petscan or if the results appear bad.
I admit to a big bias in favor of MRIs which have been extremely accurate for me. Do a search on Petscan in the box on the upper right to catch up on prior posts on this if you want a quick overview of OCF experiences.
Good luck

ah i guess i just assumed it was always PETS but i guess you are all right, it will likely be a combo. so i guess its a few months wait. why is that? is something happening over the few months after treatments end that they wait?
i would just think they would assess right away.

Palm,

The area is still very active, healing and all. There is also internal swelling and such that has not gone down. My doctors check the area physically (poking and prodding) but want to wait for the CT. They have told me to let them know if anything unusual comes up, pain or lump or something, but if not they seem to be happy to wait. My CT is scheduled for next month almost 6 months out.

Keep in mind that my location is the soft palet and they can get at that area fairly easily and I have no complaints.

Palm,

Inflammation will "light up" in a PET. Generally, they wait a few months post surgery before doing a PET as the area is still healing and could present false positives.

Good luck,
Anita
