Joe had a recurrence in his left neck this summer, and since he had already had a rnd and rt there twice, it looked bad. We went to MDA and Dr. Hong agreed with our onco to keep Joe on Taxotere and Erbitux, no radiation and surgery. Our radiation onco decided to give cyberknife a shot, and long story short, it didn't shrink the cancer. He has a quarter size wound on his neck, CT scans still show cancer in the left neck (not anywhere else), and they have given him a break from chemo because he has a staph infection he can't kick in his neck. He is in lots of pain. The whole cyberknife thing was tough because we thought it might do the trick and now we are right back in non-curable land.

Just wanted to update as I have been unable to read this board for a bit just because I am super emotional. I have not told my little boys that the end is inevitable (still hoping for a miracle), but I think if the doctors tell us the time is getting short, I will.

Thank you for all of your prayers and support.

Angie,

I'm sorry you are having to go down this road...with small children I think it's even harder. The hardest thing I've ever done in this life was tell my oldest boy (8 at the time) that I had cancer. It was all I could do not to break down when he said "Daddy, I don't want you to die!"

My wife and I have been as upfront with my children as we could, my boys are 10 and 6. I've thought about how I would break it to my children many times and I came to the conclusion that I would wait as long as I could. I don't fear death however I do fear the experience of telling my children my time is short.

My thoughts are with you dear, you and your husband and family.

Eric

Oh Angie, I am so sorry to hear about this. This whole ordeal is so scary. Keep praying for a miracle, I know I will be. Make the most of each day you have together because none of us is guaranteed tomorrow. Sending you lots of hugs from Califorina.

Hang in there,
