Hi all,

My husband's family is pressuring me to take him to a Naturopath, and I just wanted to get some input. Have any of you found the advice and suggestions of a Naturopath to be helpful during your treatments? Just curious...

Thanks!

Laurie

Hello Laurie,

People from all around the world come to the United States to go to a few of our CCC's for a REASON. Simply put, they are some of the best in the world. Surgery, chemo and radiation are proven treatments to beat cancer.

Do I think a natural healthy lifestyle is good? Of course I do.

Am I going to smear some exotic oil on my neck to cure cancer? Yea, only if all else fails or if that Snake Oil Salesman is holding a gun to my head.

Cancer is not going away...if these natural treatments worked--Sloan, Anderson and Cleveland would be doing it.

Laurie,

The more you look into naturopath's the more it should scare you when it comes to cancer. Naturopath's take a holistic aproach and focuses on natural remedies to "help" the bodies vital systems fight disease.

Cancer has gotten past Roy's systems and the treatment he's about to go through there's really no natural remedies for. You are in the hands of the 6th highest rated cancer treatment facility in the US and hence the world. Trust these medical professionals dear. I had around a 20% chance of living after my diagnosis and the folks at the UWMC have kept me alive.

I would ask your family how much they know about Oral Cancer and it's mortality rate, or it's treatment. I would also research naturopathy, for a quick overview read this link to a Wikipedia article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naturopathy

Personally dear I think you and Roy are in great hands.

Best Wishes

Eric

It is so hard when people who care about you also push for treatments like Naturopathy WHICH DO NOT CURE ORAL CANCER. You have to be strong and just resist this nonsense and superstition.
For some reason, many work colleagues and health food friends all swear by one of the most bogus treatments around: essiac tea, others advocated naturopathy, homeopathy, & spiritual healing. I did not want to be angry at them for trying to be helpful but they would not relent on how these treatments saved somebody's somebody etc so I just decided to fight bullshit with bullshit. I tell them my father had prostate cancer (which he did) and that he used essiac tea or whatever (which he did not) and it Killed him so it must be genetic. That is so unscientific that it rings true to these people.
In your case, suddenly remember an old friend from your single days and substitute her father and how you can't risk that happening to your husband. Or tell the truth, you went to this site and discovered that whatever the efficacy of naturopathy, it does not have supporters from actual true survivors of oral cancer. We sometimes do get wishful and wistful posters who hope against all hope that their particular bogus cure or TX is real, but they die before long so that should be your reply.
Finally, I found this tidbit on one of the wackiest cancer cure sites espousing goofy cures and even they do not like naturopathy
One last subject before moving on. There are no college or medical school courses on this planet on curing cancer with natural medicine. Naturopaths have some courses, but I am not terribly impressed by most naturopaths.
Thanks guys! Oh my gosh Charm, you had me laughing out loud!

I hear what you are saying and completely agree. To be fair, I don't think my question was specific enough, because no one is suggesting that my hubby NOT get traditional treatment, or that the naturopath will help him to cure his cancer.

This is what I'm hearing from my sister-in-law: "What's wrong with building his body up with nutrients that the naturopath recommends WHILE the chemo/rad are tearing it down?"

Can you give me any ideas as to how to respond?

Thanks Ray, Eric, and Charm! You're the best!

Laurie,

I sent you an email but will post this on this thread for others to read.

There are "natural" anti-oxidants and "cancer fighting" remedies out there that help "boost" the body while at the same time HINDERING some chemotherapy drugs. Tumeric is a good example of this. The problem with most naturopathic Dr's are that they really don't have the training that even an regular MD has much less a Medical Oncologist. They generally aren't familiar with drug interactions or how their supplements may react or interfere with the treatment protocols the EXPERTS are using to treat the cancer with. My advice is steer clear until AFTER chemo...then do whatever floats your boat.

It was good to see your email today by the way Laurie, take care of that cold dear...and yourself
