Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,082 | After Eleven long months of nothing but Jevity 1.5 down my feeding tube, I finally had Chinese Take Out for dinner tonite.
No, I did not suddenly regain my ability to swallow nor eat even a teeny tiny bit of food. Instead, my brand new VITAMIX machine made short work of Tofu & String Beans Dinner with Rice. It was a little too thick to go down the feeding bag, but it syringed in very nicely with my new 16FR PEG. Ah, to burp and taste Chinese again. Even better, my caregiver wife was able to have some of my entree in addition to hers since it was too much for one serving. So good, I will blend it again tomorrow for a unique breakfast. this has got to be more healthy than the corn syrup solids that make up Jevity

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,082 | Thanks everybody. I had "Immuno-soup" last night [a recipe my wife took from the Total Cancer Wellness Guide we checked out of the library] and garlic bread. Tonight, I had salmon souffle with fruit dessert. We just put what I would have eaten if I could into the VitaMix and in 90 seconds, it is almost the texture of Jevity. Still a tad too thick to go down the gravity bag, but it syringes easily. YUM with the burps. Plus psychologically it is very helpful. I used to tease DonB and others about their nutrition kicks and posts primarily because it hadn't helped me avoid cancer, but good food beats corn syrup solids in a can anyday.
