Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 212 | Hi folks, quick question here. I am 14 weeks post tx and doing well. I eat everything but onions and booze ( I would love a glass of wine). I do not have the fatigue of 6 weeks afgo and in fact feel pretty good in that area. My taste buds are slowly returning, not great but OK, still have saraha mouth, drink a ton of water. But I still have a sore throat every day, not so sore I need drugs, but sore enough to get my attention. It can be agavated if I eat crunchy stuff and it gets agreavated if I wiork out and do alot of panting.
Do any of you long time post TX 's remember when your throat was feeling great? Thanks!

Back to swimming, biking and running! just a tad slower
never regained my weight, even when I eat lots and lots, just a skinny guy now
Just way glad to be seeing the green side up!

I'm at about the same level of discomfort as you are so I will be interested in seeing what the answers are. I know my ENT and RO were of little help here. They both just kind of shrugged and gave me a non-answer when I asked them.

DX 2/10/09; Stage 1 SCC side of tongue; Partial Gloss; PEG in 3/3/09; 3 Cisplatin; 35 IMRT; PEG out 7/17/09; Eating via mouth and walking 3 miles/day 4 wks after treatment end. 50 pound weight loss; Clear PET 09/09 and 09/10

The doc's said it would fade away gradualy. Just wondering what gradualy means. I let them know that I can get through the two early meals of the day with no pain, but dinner, my largest and longest meal, is tougher. I get pain near the end and have to slow down. Sometimes I do dinner in two phases.

Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 212 | Well I went to the Doc's (ENT)today, now 16 weeks out, and he said it was quite normal. It allways has some level of pain, low mostly. When I eat cruncky food it hurts more (duh1) and when I exercise it hurts from the dry mouth breathing. So I am getting more patient and accepting the dry mout, lack of taste, soreness and weakness from muscle loss.
I guess it really does take a year to recover!

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

I feel sorry for you really but it's part of our fight with the OC bully that has grabbed us. Maybe your pain will end one day soon. I wish everyones in here would, but until it does we just have to do our best and go on living..
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.
