Hello, this is ChristineB's son Travis as many of you know my mom has recently went through extensive surgery to remove the cancer found in her jaw. I just wanted to let everyone know that the surgery went well and the doctor says shes recovering good. she has a slight fever but the doctors are keeping it under control. she has been asleep since monday due to all the pain medication but today they plan to slowly start to wake her. I'm sorry it took so long for me to post an update. I appreciate everyones support for my mom and just wanted to say thank you guy's for it is your support that keeps my mom in this fight and gives her the modivation to never give up. I will keep you guy's posted of her condition.

Thanks for the update Travis. I've been keeping your mom in my prayers all week. I'm so happy that the surgery went well and she is on the road to recovery.

Please let us know when she can have visitors. And if you need help with anything, just let me know -- I'm the Susan that lives only a few miles away.

Biopsy 2/2011: Moderate dysplasia
Surgery 4/2011: Mild dysplasia
Dental issues: 2013-2022 (ORN)

I'd say next week would be the best time to start having visitors. she's at lehigh valley hospital the cedar crest location her room is 2k3.

CG/Mom: 5 1/2 years SCC upper palate,4 recurrences, surgeries, chemo & radiation. Mom went to Heaven 1/21/11.

Husband: 3 SCC gum and cheek cancers 2002, 2005, 2006: surgery only. Scans clear after removal of small, well differentiated, non-invasive cancers. No radiation. 4th SCC lip diagnosed 4/13/07 - in situ, removed in biopsy. More lip removed 2/8/08 - dysplasia. 2 Biopsies 3/17/09 no cancer (lichenoids)

Bill . . . SCC - originated in right tonsil, drifted into neck ( 28 lymph nodes removed - one positive ). Radical neck dissection in September 07, completed 34 radiation tx on January 4, 2008. Used Peg. Non smoker, 61, good shape, no previous health issues. Second year PET scan - "all clear".

01/2021 SCC stage 3 base of tongue diagnosed
01/03/2021 chemotherapy started.

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.

1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Thank you for keeping us updated. Your mother has been so strong for us that our prayers have to be effective in getting her through these days. May you have her with you for many more years.


SCC stage II Partial mandibulectomy w. neck dissection- July 2005. Renal cancer w. partial nephrectomy-Jan 2004. Breast cancer discovered in routine mammogram. Successful lumpectomy, sentinal nodes clear, RT only-2008 Reconstruction of mandible w fibula free flap-Jan 09. TORS removal of begnin pappiloma from esophagus-2010. Masectomy,rt breast 2013.

David R. 65 yr old male non-smoker, light drinker, stage 3 or 4, depending on which doc you ask, scc rt. tonsil, 2 nodes, 7 weeks radiation and chemo. No surgery. Teatment ended 3/20/08. PET scan 8/08 showed no cancer.
And now, as of oct, 2010, caregiver to wife, Linda, with breast cancer.
May, 2013, Linda diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Enuf already.

SCC right tonsil, Stage 3. RND, tonsilectomy, and PEG install done collectively 12/26/08, Cisplatin x3, IMRT x35. Post-TX PET clear 9/09, PEG removed 9/09, PEG stoma surgical repair 9/17/09. Dx renal cell carcinoma 11/09. Partial nephrectomy 01/10.

Travis, when your MOM wakes up, it's possible she might have forgotten a few things. Her mind and body have just been thru a horrific time and both will need healing time. She's a great lady and as tough as they come and will be fine . I sometimes wish my lost time would return and it's been over 18 moths since it occured. Give her a big hug for me will you. She is very special .. Jim


Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Travis- Remember to take care of yourself too. Get plenty of rest and don't eat too much junk food!


cg to husband, 48 Stage 1V head and neck SCC. First surgery 9/07. Radiation and several rounds of chemo followed. Mets to chest and lungs. "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain." Went home to God on February 22, 2009.
