Joined: May 2009 Posts: 114 | Does this hurt others teeth. When I put on my trays with the Dry Mouth gel provided by my dentist my teeth explode in what seems like sugar and cold sensitivity. It just gets worse and worse the longer I keep them in and I am only lasting about 5 minutes.
Has anyone experienced this. My teeth got sensitive after surgery and while taking roxicet liquid pain killer.
Age 52, T2 N0 M0 SCC of left anterior floor of mouth. Esophagoscopy, Direct laryngoscopy, Resection of left anterior FOM lesion w/ lateral tongue. left selective neck dissection levels I-IV. 5x6cm skin graft coverng excision. Finished 33-35 rad Tx. False recurrence 12-22-10 last surgery 2-15-10

Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8,311 | Talk to your dentist. I have been using the Fluoride trays for 3 years now and never experienced anything like you describe and I keep my on for 30 mins every day.

I stopped using them once my mucosa got too ravaged by radiation. It still stings a bit when I use them, so I try every so often, and if it hurts, I put it away and try again in a week or two. So far stil stings. Should I suck it up and do it, or should I wait until it don't hurt no mo'?

Joined: May 2009 Posts: 114 | Relief! Relief with a Capitol R!!!! SF 1.1% Gel made by Cypress Pharmaceutical, Inc. Described as a brush on and leave for up to thirty minutes. It has no sugar or sugar imitators and I can slather my teeth in full trays of this stuff and actually forget they are in my mouth. I almost want to do it again......

Check with your Cancer Center's dental group, but during TX and Recovery I was told if my mouth got to sore to use the trays to just rub the fluoride on with my finger or a soft baby toothbrush.
I found I prefer the sodium fluoride to the stannous fluoride.

That's what I use now as it's much cheaper than what my dentist was "giving" me. I think I pay $12 a tube and the other was costing $23.

Could you tell me me what kind of flouride you use and how you use it? I've just been putting in general 1 size fits all trays for 2 min a day and then don't rinse mouth for 30 min. I've not gotten good advice on this so was just following instructions on bottle. Should I keep them in my mouth for 30min?

I use SF 1.1% Gel made by Cypress Pharmaceutical, Inc. Cost $12.00 a tube at Walgreens and I squeeze a thin ribbon of gel into the trays and put them on right after I floss and brush my teeth right before I retire. I was told by my dentist to wear them for 5 minutes and not drink anything for 30 but I decided just to keep them in the entire 30 and then I take them out and clean them and wrap them loosely in a tissue so the will dry and I also have to be sure to put them in a drawer so any one of my 7 cats don't steal them and run all over the house with them during the night. I should know because I left them alone one night and played hell the next day finding them and they were chewed and bent almost beyond recognition.
