Does anyone know of any resources available to help someone who will be traveling for radiation treatments. I know the American Cancer Society has drivers that can drive patients back and forth. I am one of their volunteer drivers.

The patient I am trying to help lives about 60 - 65 miles from the treatment center. With the horrible traffic when driving even on non rush hour times it will take about 2 hours each way. We all know that going thru radiation with chemo is bad but spending 4 hours a day, 5 days a week in a car traveling is pretty difficult.

I am hoping to find some resources that will help with lodging. I know of Hope House but they make it mandatory that someone stays with the patient and this is not always possible. Does anyone know of any other options for help with lodging in the Phila area? The cost of a hotel is out of the question, even one at $20 a night would be too much.

I wonderif this is something a local service club such as Lions, Elks, Moose, Wildebeasts or whatever might be able to help with? One letter could be sent to several organizations explaining the situationan and requesting help. ONce they have said yes/no you could give the individuals name.. I was a Lioness for years and we were used to individual requests

Is the treatment center at a CCC? I know Moffitt had a liason office that we were directed to if we needed it that could help with all sorts of logistics and financing including lodging and transporation. I know this sort of thing is common so perhaps someone at the treatment facility can direct you to the resources.

Good luck, Deb

The hospital is about 60 miles away so commuting will not be very easy. I know the American Cancer Society has volunteer drivers available for people going thru cancer treatments. I am one of the volunteer drivers who helps take patients to their appointments. The problem is that the list of patients who need rides is greater than the number of volunteers. I have not heard of any local hospitals providing transportation to their cancer patients but I will pass this info along just in case. Never know, maybe their hospital offers that service. Thanks Sue!
