We have been working the the ABC daytime TV show the Revolution

http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/the-revolution

to do a segment on oral cancer and HPV. While they only give a small portion of the show to any given topic, they are airing this segment on the 30th at 2PM on ABC. We have tried to ensure that (given what they will tell us about the content of the show) that they get their facts right (as so many do not). So we are at that end of the process fact checking what they have told us they are going to say. We'll see. We also asked for a mention for the foundation and a link to our web site if people want additional info, which they said they would try to do, but because of legal issues with ABC, they may not be able to. Again, we'll see what finally happens. I am traveling that day, so I hope some of you will watch it and post a critique. Probably within a day or two it will appear on their web site also.

I'm on it! I thought it was in yesterday's episode for some reason so I watched it online last night and was disappointed that it wasn't...but I did learn some handy fashion tips from Tim Gunn and how to make a wine glass holder from an old garden rake from the guy that used to host Extreme Home Makeover so it wasn't a total loss...

Interesting. I have been in talks with them to be one of the women featured because of what Ken went through. I said I wanted to make people aware. I hadn't heard back on being selected but even if I am not I happy they are getting the word out!

EXCELLENT, Jill. I hope they are going to choose you to represent how difficult it is for an oral cancer patient. So sorry for everything you went thru.

Jill, you may very well be part of this, I can't tell. They just (over several contacts) asked OCF to fact check various statements they wanted to make, many of which needed some scientific tweaking to be correct. Whether they will incorporate my recommended changes or not, I do not know.

So I really have no idea what the angle of the story line will be, what images they will use are, or what interviews they may or may not incorporate etc. It took forever to convince them that there were no good pictures of early HPV+ oral cancers since it so infrequently produces the kinds of lesions that we see with tobacco carcinogenesis until very late in the game.

I am just happy they are doing a story annd that maybe I had a small part in it! I started talking to them back in May 2011. I had to do all kinds of home videos and applications. At the time Ken was recovery from treatment. Once he passed away I contacted them to see if I was still in the running. I made it to the finals last November. Then they called me again over a month ago to see if I was still interested. I had to do another video explaining what had happened and one of the things I said I hoped would come out of me getting on the show was doing a story on HPV and oral cancer. So even if they don't pick me and I miss out on the personal trainer, etc. at least they are doing the story (and hopefully correctly!!).

What I think is great though is that our efforts are paying off and people are getting the message. We are in the news, magazines, tv ads. Well done Brian...
