I would like to hear from people that had the rad seed implants as to what I can expect. I have no idea at all what it will be like before or after. Any info will help ease this little mind somewhat. Just anything.. Thank you in advance.

Hi Jim,

My dad had 5 tubes inside, and 5 tubes outside his cheek.
He honestly said it didn't bother him at all, not during, and not after. He said that it was much easier than IMRT for him.
I hope this eases your mind, hopefully it will be the easiest treatment of all for you as well.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Love from Wooster,
Deb

Dell, it seems not many have had implants or don't want to make me cry. LOL J/K Maybe we buckeyes aren't as tough as we thought. I'm tired of just having carnation and soups already LOL and still have a long way to go before a thick juicy steak ...I've been tempted to try one in the blender just to satisfy my curiosity. Yep, I'm simple. LOL

Jim,

The rad will take of that desire. Believe me before long you won't be thinking about eating steak. Even post Tx real steak eating pleasure is months and months and months away. Just go with the flow and get as many calories down as you can each and every day and the rest will take care of itself.

Jim,
I can only second Davids sentiment re steaks..... I am also not there yet. Beside the texture it is also the taste that still turns me off. On the other hand shrimp was something that I could eat early on (and which "tasted" ok).

Thanks for the replys guys. I just have that wishful thinking kicked in gear about food. LOL I mixed garlic mashed potatoes and tomto soup last nite. It wasn't too bad and went down easy. I am an experimenter when it comes to food and will be trying other foods that I can make soupy.

There was a time I just could not stand vanilla anymore, likewise canned soups. In the meantime I like vanilla again. Mashed potatoes & gravy sounds good. There are also boxed soups that may be ok (Portobello etc). Also pasta with sufficient butter to give you a heart attack worked..... just slippery enough to slide right down the hatch....

Jim,
Blenders and food processors are wonderful. Many years ago when my boys were eating very few of the same vegetbles I came up with a potent "cocktail" to give them a megadose of nutrition. I processed a can of spinach, an onion, celery, a green pepper, a pack of fresh mushrooms, lots of garlic, oregano, tarragon, basil, majoram and parsley and a big can of tomato sauce. The mixture was an awful green so I added red food color until it looked more appealling. I browned some ground beef added the sauce, cooked it down and served it with spaghetti. When one of them asked for a third helping, I told them what they were eating!!

Bon appetit, Malka

Markus, I like the description of the pasta. One of my favorites for sure, but just if I make the sauce. I have no teeth and am wondering about using a blender on the pasta. My gums are still plenty sore and I don't want to push it. any ideas?

Jim,
I am not sure about a blender and pasta.. it might end up sticky, depending on how much liquid you add.
However, consider elbow macaroni. These are quite small and you can swallow them whole. I guess you would not want them al dente!! Just cook them long enough so that they are really tender.
Best.

For the record, when Dan was not able to eat solids I blended up homemade mac and cheese and it turned into paste. Not a good thing. I tried diluting it, and it was a disaster.

I have a great recipe for mac and cheese if you need one let me know. Dan ate it through most of his treatment. It's got a lot of sauce so if you can handle swallowing noodles, it can go down well.

Here it is. I hope it works. It's very easy to make. It was from Cooking Light, but I changed all the lowfat ingredients to high fat to up the calorie count. So, instead of skim milk, I used cream or Vitamin D milk.

Macaroni and Cheese

4 cups cooked elbow macaroni (about 2 cups uncooked)
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup cottage cheese
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons stick margarine, melted
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
1/4 teaspoon pepper (Dan couldn't eat pepper so I omitted this)
1 egg, lightly beaten
Vegetable cooking spray

Combine first 9 ingredients; stir well, and spoon into a 2-quart casserole coated with cooking spray. Cover and bake at 350

Jim,

I started out on Ensure and then found Ensure Plus but it wasn't until I found the VHC that I started to make some headway. That's because I didn't have to drink but 4 cans to meet my daily goal. When I was drinking the Ensure I had to down 6 to 8 cans a day and I always fell behind going into my 4th week of Tx. That's when all my problems really began. Keep on top of the food and water and avoid most of the crap I brought on myself.

Now, now Jim - let's not get into sibling rivalry here.
Don't pick on your sister. Her concern is that you get well. How that is achieved is probably not so important to her. After all, it's not her mouth that's missing parts!

I made meatless sauce today and put it over macaroni. I never realized how much I miss real food before eating it. I mashed the macaroni with a fork as I ate and washed it down with water. I mashed the tomatoes too seeing as how much Ilike them. It sure was good. Verryyy goodddd. LOL
