Hello Kris

I didn't know that the US didn't have Boxing Day (26 December). I guess it came to Australia with our British heritage. Does Canada have it?

From Google: 'The day after Christmas, the Feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, is better known as Boxing Day. The term may come from the opening of church poor boxes that day; maybe from the earthenware boxes with which boy apprentices collected money at the doors of their masters' clients. '

I learn so much from this board. Love from Helen cool

I once got a refill for my DayTimer and it included a little sticker for all the world's holidays. Of course, I put all the Japanese holiday reminders on the correct pages plus as many as I could (or before I got bored with the task). I made it a point to leave voice mails for several co-workers' with a brisk announcement of the holiday. Happy Boxing Day was the one that got the most reponses! I'm sure they all wish I still worked there! eek

Hi Guys,
I was once told by one of my very English coworkers that Boxing Day was the day that all the servants received presents (hence, boxes) from their masters.

Have a Happy New Year everyone!!

Canada also has a boxing day! It is the day for putting away all the Christmas decorations in boxes of course. Also for us it is a day for family and friends. After skating we have Hot Turkey sandwiches. We are lucky again today - our outdoor pond is not covered with snow and we will be celebrating the New Year with a skating party followed by a lobster dinner. My husbands's health continues to be good and we will be bringing in the New Year in fine spirits. Happy New Year Everybody!!

Yummy lobster!!!

Marcee and I just finished our New Years Eve dinner, Portorhouse steaks marinated in a lemon pepper sauce and sprinkled with blackin seasoning. Fried in butter fresh mushrooms. I made a nice hot fire on the charcoal grill and got them just right. (pink in the middle and hot) Baked potato's with sour cream, Had a sliced cucumber and table onions. We ended the meal with strawberry cheesecake with cool whip. I am stuffed. The most i ate in one meal in a year and a half. When I go for chemo on monday that scale better show some weight gain!!!!

Happy New Year to All!!!

New Years Eve here is boring and uneventful as it has been for the past 16 years! Neither of us are much for drinking so we always stay home with the kids, which can be just as much fun, take my word. We ordered take out, dropped two kids off at a friends house for a kids party, had our grandchildren over, and watched some movies. My husband is on some new medication for his blood pressure/heart problems and it makes him really tired so we'll be in bed early.
Lobster..............I grew up eating that stuff, in Maine it's like having hamburgers. I sure do miss it though!

hi, I had a great Christmas at home with all of my family, and now I am in NY visiting my son and wife and my 2 year old grandson . One of the best things about surviving Cancer is getting to see him. I am thrilled to be here to be his Grandmother.Someone told me once they would have died before they would have went through all that I did.( Stage 4 cancer, failed femur flap and 12 operations in all till I was rebuilt.} All I have to do is look at that little face and him putting his arms out to me, and guess what, I would do it all over again just for that. Happy New Year and good health to all.

Hi from Japan.
I am Japanese and do not know about Boxing day as a Japanese holiday, but we do exchange gifts during year-end period.
New year is another gift-giving time but this is basically for kids only.

Wish you all happier, easier, fuller year of 2005!

Hi, Cath.

I'm listening to some blues music by Keb Mo and hanging out... waiting for the first snowfall of the year. We don't get much, so it's a big deal, especially for the grandkids.

Hi Cathy,

Like Ken, waiting for to see if the snow doeth fall. There were a few big, wet flakes down here this morning. Then the proverbial rain. A saying here in Washington is, if you want an accurate weather forecast, look out the window. If you don't like it, wait five minutes and look again. It has been quite chilly here, but not as cold as You were having just last week. Hope You are feeling warmer than You were. Glad You are doing OK. When are You moving to Florida?

Glenn,
I was listening to Keb Mo earlier this afternoon, along with B.B., Muddy, Candy Cane, Steve Trout et.al. Nothing like a little "Blues" to get the ol' heart pumping. Plus a little caffeine (OK, make that a triple breve with some french vanilla and cinnamon flavor).

Peace
Jack

Hello Cathy,

Well we did not get any snow here in the southern part of Puget Sound. I am not going to lose any sleep over it though. I like Irish music too. Those leprechauns have really good voices. My paternal Grandmother was 100% Irish and maternal side has lots of the Irish also. What part of Arkansas do You live in? Hope You are still feeling good today.

Peace

Cathy....while this board posts real time, it is unlikely that you can use it like a chat board and ask if anyone is on at that moment in time. First you are assuming that if they are they are lookinjg at your thread, and second, posters are spread thorughout so many time zones; from London to Mid America to Hong Kong, that finding someone on at the exact moment that you post would be difficult.
