My husband got the results back from his first Pet scan since he finished approx 3 1/5 months ago, TG there is no sign of cancer and the prof. said the results were excellent before this he had two visual checks which the prof was very happy with.A is back at work ,eating all but spicy foods and he feels his tast is back 80% however it does fade as he continues to finish the meal."A" does suffer from dry mouth at night and an overproduction of sliva during the day and his feet (the base of his ankles) are sore ,has anyone else had this and if so what did you do.
how often in the future should he expect to have check ups?
and what type of examinations? I will look at the main page to see if it is there.
Hopefully in the future "a" will come to the site and tell his story and help others.

Hi Seana, that's great news. You must both be over the moon. Sounds like his tumour had spread further than mine, but he has got through the treatment well. I can't say what the problem is with his ankles. I have some numbness in my toes and soles of my feet from peripheral neuropathy caused by chemo. Could it be that? Sally

thanks for the quick reply ,yes he has pain on the soles of his feet ,does it go away or have you done or can you do anything for it ? he is so lucky and we are blessed that he has so few problems I hope all the others here get through it and come out the other side and feel the way he dose.

If it is peripheral neuropathy, then I think the answer is that it is different for different people (as in most things related to this treatment!). I have never got a straight answer from my doctors. I have read that it does go away, but also some people are still bothered by it years later! My feet are definitely much more 'comfortable' now than 6 mths ago. I don't have pain as such but more like 'pins and needles' and the sensation of touch feels odd. At first I could never get my feet comfortable, but now I often don't notice it, though my feet definitely feel the cold more and overheat more quickly too. Sally

That sound good even though it not my soles that have the problem ,I dont think he suffer too much its just I think you are more aware of your body naturally after this and are slightly concerned when bits of your body dont feel right.

He is 20 months post treatment, and will be seeing his ENT every 4-5 months for a physical check-up including an endoscopic examination of his throat.

Unless he or the doctor see something worrisome, he will only be getting a chest x-ray at his 2 year anniversary. His doctor says that followup scans have been a hot topic at the conferences he has attended this year, and that, in absence of signs or symptoms, it is not necessary to subject the patient to more radiation than is needed. If the doctor is unsure of anything he or she finds in a physical exam, they schedule some sort of followup. A physical exam conducted by a skilled specialist who is looking for trouble is a powerful disagnostic tool.

Oh yes I forgot to add that. I have been followed up every 6wks since my 3 month CT scan. These include a visual check of my mouth and of the base of tongue with an optic endoscopy via the nose, and a physical external examination of my neck. I expect that the time interval will increase once past one post treatment. I have also been told that I wont get another scan unless there are indications of any concerns, for the same reason that they want to avoid unnecessary further radiation.
