Had my first week of radiations and one chemo. On to week two.
Saw RO for about a second, nutritionist and the nurse. You are doing great! But that's because it's only your first week. By the end of this, mid of next week, you'll start experience difficulties swallowing, be prepared. Sigh. It was nice, even if unrealistic to delude myself for that one week.
But, I am further to the end of treatments than I was a week ago, in the process is moving, which is huge.
I also have very very faint ringing in one ear, no longer than 2-5 seconds, and not particularly bothersome. It could be nothing. Or it could be my first cisplatin's delayed reaction. I'll bring it up to MO when I see him later in the week.
So just checking in. Holding tight.
I know everyone is different, but I was fine thru the first 3 weeks and then just took each day one at a time, and the 5 days turned into a week and pretty soon I was done! There was a dark tunnel to go through but the light is there, stay focused, many here have been there and we are thinking and praying for you. Bruce
Yor ears will ring and probably hurt and maybe it could get hard to swallow, but it's nothing you can't handle.Just think of it as part of the treatment and it will go away later. Good luck and I would bet by readint the few worda you just posted there that you have a positive attitude and are a fighter.
Hi Jenka
Keep up the good work!!!
Please don't forget to mention to your doctor about the faint ringing that you have in one ear - it is very important that he/she is made aware of anything like that as soon as possible.
Good luck
Karen
Please dont forget to mention the ringing in your ears to the doc. It could be a permanent side effect some get from cisplatin. Hearing loss is very common with that type of chemo.
Hang in there, take it day by day and you will get thru this.
Hi Jenka!
Congratulations on getting through your first week. Hopefully it will all go by quickly with only a bit of discomfort. You will feel relieved when it is all over and glad that you threw the book at this.
Keep yourself entertained and sitracted as possible. Hang in there!

As you can tell, it affected my mind too. LOL Musn't forget that.
Jenka,
The ringing is probably due to the Cisplatin so definitely tell your MO and let the MO decide. I was told after my 3rd and last Cis that had my MO known, he would have switched me to Carbo which he said and I quote "Carbo is just as good only without the bad side effects". That was 2 1/2 years ago and whether that's true or not is still not proven but I wanted to strangle him at the time. Heck I still do!
Jenka
Another nag about telling your MO. Cisplatin is VERY toxic to your ears. I found this out after I completed my chemo phase of treatments. I do have ringing in my ears which an ear specialist has given me very low odds of being corrected. My range of hearing is still what is classified as extremely good, however the ringing is very noticeable in quiet environments which can be distracting.
Ask !

I did mention it. He said it's likely cisplatin. Said to keep an eye on it, and if gets worse after 2nd treatment, we may skip the third.
So far it's getting better, a week and a half after the first chemo.
Best of luck to you during your treatments Jenka. I had a poster board and marked off each one and was elated when I Xed out the final one. Most of the side effects are common to all but the timing and degree of those effects certainly do vary.
If you are hearing the ringing then damage is being done. That's what the ringing is. Have you asked him what he thinks of Carbo?
Your doc needs to hear from you about your tinnitus. This chemo can cause permanent irreversable deafness if it goes too far.
Like it did for me. Certainly it's not life threatening but it is sometimes a PITA and it will accelerate me getting hearing aids.
