Ok, so it's back, had to have a node removed from my neck again, positive...Now I'm in the whirlwind of tests etc. The doc's are starting rads and chemo (5-FU and Cisplatin) on the 13th of July...my question is why do I have to be inpatient for the 5-FU, doc said that its infused over 96hrs. and that I need to be there for that. Isnt there an infusion pump or something, I'll be at the hosp every day for rad's anyway! A bit of help here would be appreciated
I had 5-FU, Cisplatin and Taxatere on a Monday at the hospital for 8 hours and then a fanny pack (infusion kit) for the remaining 4 days of the week. It was removed on a Friday. So I don't understand why you need to stay in the hospital. I'd ask!!!

Sorry those nodes were positive and sorry that you will have the chemo/rad but the good news is this Tx will most likely kill all the cancer remaining forever!!
That course of chemo is pretty intense. They probably just want to keep an eye on you to make sure your side effects are OK and that your fluids are regulated.

My primary was on the side of the tongue not too large, but due to the depth, had a nd, of the many nodes removed one was positive,small and pretty high so no further treatment. That was March 08, had been clear since then until I noticed a lump in my neck pretty much right at the bottom of the U of my scar. Nothing on the tongue, having a PET scan tomorrow. I am not the "typical".... non smoker (except I grew up in a house of smokers where you could cut it with a knife) social drinker, neg for HPV.

Actually you are a "typical" OC patient as lately we are seeing a lot of people who present themselves just like you, i.e., non smokers, young(er) and HPV negative. There now seems to be 3 distinctive "typical" OC patients coming to this site,
1. Tobacco users, Primaries everywhere except the BOT and Tonsils and HPV-,
2. Non tobacco users, Primaries BOT or Tonsils, younger than group 1 and HPV+ and
3. Non tobacco users, Primaries usually in the tongue, younger than group 2 and HPV-.
These are just my observations.

My hubby had the same treatment as you, only the 5FU was given by infusion pump AT HOME with visiting nurses removing the pump. You should check this out; possibly you have some other health issue? (diabetes, etc?) If not, talk to them. Possibly your insurance requires that you stay in the hospital.
