Has anyone had any problems after neck surgery or tooth extracting with muscle spasms leading to nerve compression and then causing profuse sweating dizzyness and radical drop in blood pressure? this has been a huge issue my husband has been dealing with after he had two top molars removed on the same side as his previous neck disection.
Can anyone please offer any insight on how to combat this! Medications for the spasms? physical therapy? exercise? anything that might help?
Right now he takes:
Lyrica 75mgs x2 daily for nerve pain.
Skelaxin (just started 3 days ago) 800mg x2 daily as needed or valium 50mgs x3 as needed.
He has started on the dynasplint and is working his way up to 30 mins 3 times a day.
Thank you so much for any input you may have. We are at our wits end with this. He had an episode Monday early am and now again this morning around 3am. And has had 4 other episodes in the previous 3 weeks.

MS T,

I have not had the problems of blood pressure that you mentioned. I like others here did have stiffness in the neck and some nerves effected. The only thing I found that helped me was warm packs on neck, and or hot showers. When in the show I turn head from right to left. Try to stretch the tendons and neck muscles.

I hope someone can help you with this question. I am sure someone here knows more of what you are asking.

Hope what I mentioned will help you some.

Take care... Diane

A trick that physical therapists use to help side-to-side stretching is to look ahead while you rotate your head to one side, then move you eyes to that side and look back as far as you can -- You'll find your head moves back a little more!

Thank you Pete and Diane for responding. Alot has gone on since I posted my inquiry. My husband has had 3 more episodes the last one while getting chemo. that was enough to get his medical oncologist involved. He sent us to a cardiologist to evaluate the problem. Seems there is scar tissue forming near the carotid artery and when his muscles spasm in his jaw and neck that is enough to pinch his carotid and cause the syncope. the good news is his heart is fine and hopefully in time the spasms will lessen and the episodes will stop. ~big sigh~. I'll be sure to tell him your trick with the side to side stretching Pete and I'll recommend he try it in the shower. Good idea Diane to stretch in the shower a bit when the muscles are a little more relaxed from the warm water.
