I had the radial forearm flap tongue surgery on 3/8/04 and am pleased with my results. I can eat almost anything (my left side needs water etc to wash things down). People think I talk well but I can't talk for prolonged periods of time without the flap side drying out and sticking to the roof of my mouth.
I have two questions:
-Being almost 6 months out, the flap side is still swollen what is your experience?
-How long before the side opposite node surgery swelling goes down? I have a double chin on the "good" side.
Thanks
Hi Howard
Can't really answer your questions, I had my surgery on the 11th of August, most of the swelling has gone down, but the whole of the left side of my face is numb, I'm still nil by mouth apart from water, but it all looks to be healing well, left base of tongue and most of left soft palate. Are you due for a check up, sounds like you need some advice to put your mind at rest. Make an appointment, we are all great worriers on here....get it checked out..
Sunshine... love and hugs
Helen
