This is going to sound strange and funny, but here it is, when I drink and swallow, the liquid I am dringing will start dripping out of my nose. I have to keep a tissue when I drink as no matter how I hold my head about 3/4 of the time instead of going down my throat, it come up my nose. Very strange. I asked the ENT and he says I will just have to learn to swallow again, but it's been 4 weeks post surgery and I am having the problem above and when I try to swallow food it gets stuck in my throat and I have to drink liquid to make it go on down. I am adding eggs and soft foods to my diet now instead of just jello and yougart so am I starting soft foods to soon? Any suggestions? Hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July! Thanks, Angel
Angel, if you keep having swallowing problems for much longer I think you should ask your ENT for a swallowing test called a "Modified Barium Swallow". This allows a speech pathologist (that is the person who has expertise on swallowing) to see what is happening to food and liquid as it goes down. Then they can help give you exercises and other tricks to help you get back on track with your swallowing.

Hope you have a good July 4th too!

Nelie
Angel, I remember food and liquids coming back up a tad if you will but never out the nose. By the 4th week post surgery, I had made good gains but always had liquid close by and that remains true today. Good luck and I would stay on your ENT as Nelie suggests.
Thank you Nelie and Bill for the info. I will follow up with the ENT. When I saw him last he said I had done a lot better than he expected me to but did not elaborate on the meaning of that. Thanks again, Angel
I can remember, way before OC, drinking and having to sneeze or cough with liquid in my throat. LOL Not really fun when it would do that. I feel sorry for youangels. That has to be miserable.
