Hello everyone, I'm a 16 year old female

In mid April I had a sore throat and was coughing up green phlegm and I noticed my right tonsil was swollen. Five weeks later it had not gone away so I went to my GP and he said it was not infected and that it was just my anatomy; but it didn't get any better and I went to the GP again and he referred me to an ENT for my peace of mind.

The ENT looked at my tonsils, touched them, felt my lymph nodes (which were not swollen) and stated like my GP that it was my anatomy and the only way to find out if anything else was wrong was to have it removed. I told her that I had had white patches and she stated it was just a build up of bacteria and I should try gargling to get rid of bacteria.

I am not happy with this and I am convinced it is something worse. Of course I am not of the typical age group for oral cancer and I have never smoked so it seems unlikely I could have something worse but I am extremely worried as I had an ovarian cyst at the age of 14 which took 2 years to diagnose so I do not trust the system much.

Any advice would be appreciated as I don't see how a swollen tonsil is nothing!!

One thing I have considered is that I had braces and currently wear a retainer at night - could there be some bacteria stuck on the retainer which is not allowing the swelling on the tonsil to go down!?

Anyway thank you for reading - I hope that made sense

HI,
It most likely is some form of infection. Maybe go back to GP and push for a dose of antibiotics. If it goes away, you have your answer; if not, you are no worse off than now. Best of luck, don
