Hi Sue,
Something that helped me with my mucous problem was rinsing my mouth with a baking soda & salt mixture. In a 1 quart plastic bottle I mixed with water 1 table spoon of baking soda and one table spoon of salt. I went through at least a quart a day rinsing all the time say and night. It helped break down the mucous. This also helps keep your mouth clean.

Feel free to post any questions or conerns you may have.

Sue,

I and welcome to the OCF and it's never to late to benefit from this great site. Sorry that your thick secretions have continued. What have your doctors offered up?

Hi Sue, Welcome to OCF. Almost all of us here are familiar with the thick mucous from radiation and have struggled with it. I found cough syrup with guafenesin helped make the mucous less thick and more manageable. If you can swallow a large pill, you can also take Mucinex which has the same ingredient--guafenisin--but its time released so it lasts for longer.

How is your swallowing going since you have the mucous problem?

I took rescription guafenesin pills, but they are huge and difficult to swallow. A suction machine also helps. Should be covered by insurance but if it isn't it, only $25 to $40 a month to rest. Ask dr for script.

Take care,
Eileen
