In June of 2005, after about 4-6 months of increasing hoarseness, an ENT evaluation and biopsy, I was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the right vocal cord (T1 N0 M0). This led to a detailed examination of treatment choices and six weeks of radiation at Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center.

It has now been about 18 months since the treatment ended, and my quarterly checkups have been good so far.

The chronicle of my exams, diagnosis, decision making, treatment and recovery is documented at: http://freds_journey.home.att.net
including some scope pictures and ct scan images.

As I was going through it, reading about the experiences of others who went through similar trials was very helpful and inspiring, both from these boards as well as the websites that other individuals had created. In this vein, writing about my experiences seemed like the right thing to do.

I can be reached at [email protected].

Thank you all for sharing your stories.
