Hello. I am new to this but will do my best. I had surgery on December 7th for cancer. I lost 3 teeth, the gum line, cheek liner and a section of jaw bone. A large section of my leg was placed in my mouth (this is called a flap). I have posted my ordeal on my website. Anyone wanting to check it out has to go through main page though as I have a warning as to the graphic nature of the pics. Thank you so much for posting. I live just north of you in Oklahoma and have several friends I'm planning to tell about your site. I also had a similar surgery although I didn't lose as much inside my mouth as you. The cancer was on my tongue instead of my cheek, up my gum line and tonsilar pillar. I was lucky and didn't lose any teeth or my jawbone. I did have the jawsplit and have the same lovely scar up to my ear from the neck dissection.

My friends don't seem to connect my surgery with their chew habits..since I don't chew or smoke. It will be great to show them someone who also chews...an outdoorsman and hunter...someone they can really relate to! Thanks again!

You are to be commended for what you are doing with your public service through your great website and your speaking engagements.

I am currently working with a patient of mine to help him quit chewing. Although he does not have cancer yet, he has tissue changes that are pre-cancerous. I am expecting a package in the mail from an OCF member, Tonya, who's brother David, lost his battle with cancer from chewing tobacco, last year. She too, in conjunction with her sister-in-law, is speaking to local people and has successfully helped several of them stop chewing.

As soon as I ge to my office this morning I am going to email your link to my patient. This may just be the thing to "shock" him into stopping. There is no doubt in my mind that your website, story and pictures will have a great impact on him. I will let you know when he quits.

Congratulations on your successful surgery and I hope that you choose to stick around here and become a regular member. You have a lot to offer. Your website is terrific and although I am not a hunter, I plan on going back to it and read it all.
