Hi Everyone, I'm a fairly new member, have not posted in awhile. I am 41 yrs old (non-smoker). I was diagnosed w/ SCC, Stage II, in left lateral tongue in Aug of 04, had two surgeries to remove tumor in Oct 04 (unable to get clear margins) - followed by 40 radiation treatments and 4 rounds of chemo. Had some complications throughout but treatment ultimately ended in Feb 05. I'm feeling pretty good now compared to this time last year, however, the progress I make seems to be in "baby steps" and is oftentimes frustrating. I am trying to get myself mentally ready for my appt w/ my oncologist tomorrow where she will give me the results of my latest PET scan. I'm hoping for good news. This site is a true godsend and I am grateful to all of you for sharing your stories and your wealth of information. Thank you.

good morning allyson,
I also am pretty new to this I have had 33IMRT radiation treatments, 3 rounds of chemo and a neck dissection (all finished by Jan 11 06) and had been impatiant with my recovery until my ENT and this site convinced mr that I have to think in terms of months and longer instead of weeks, so I bide my time. Hang in there my dear all will be well.

Hi Allyson, Your diagnosis and treatment sounds pretty similar to mine, I was just a few months behind you (finished treatment in early June of 05). Keeping my fingers crossed for you on the PET scan results.

I too have been making progress in baby steps although I am about 1000% better than I was at the end of treatment or even at the end of the summer. My main problem now is swallowing--I have severe dysphagia and am still on a PEG tube and I'm trying to walk the tightrope of staying motivated enough to do everyhting I can to improve and at the same time accepting that at this point I may not see huge improvements and may have to live my life without eating. It's a hard tightrope to walk for me right now, especially coupled with being back to work full time which is both wonderful and tiring (I find myself needing 9-10 hours sleep just to get through the day).

Anyway, welcome. There aren't so many other stage IIs here who ended up having radiation and chemo both and it's good to meet someone with close to my experience.

Hi Allyson,

Congratulations to another clear scan survivor! I also had clear results a couple of weeks ago, and boy, does it lift the soul!

Cheers!
