hi everyone,

im very sad to be joining you tough cookies in the recurrence forum.

We found out this saturday that the nodule biopsy from left lung came back positive. just trying to cope with the news of reoccurrence at this point and hope for some news mid-week about what the next steps will be.

I am really hoping it is just an isolated nodule and we will be able to blast it away.

it is squamous cell, the same type of cell that was in his jaw tumor.

any advice is appreciated on how you guys get through this.

hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of july!

Katie, I just posted on your other thread.

I am very very sorry to read the news of your future father inlaw. A recurrance can be done. He was tough enough to get thru a rough time of it the first time. Hoping it turns out to be something that can be managed easily so he can finally recover.

thanks christine!! i have already recommended to my fiance and his family that they should make sure he gets on anti-depressants ASAP (this was already a recommendation from a nurse before we found out this result)- with the news this weekend, i want this to get started asap so he can stay motivated.

has anyone here used antidepressants during/after treatments? were they effective? Im hoping they dont mess around withanything else he is taking too much. i think they got him an Rx for a generic this weekend.

you are right, he was strong enough to get through months of a serious tumor last time, he can conquer this tiny nodule. im just hoping thats all this is.

I would guess that about 1/2 of all the patients on here have taken anti-depressants. I didnt use any. Some caregivers have had to use them too.

katie, im sorry to hear the news.

my mom has been on paxil for about 3 years now (since we first learned of the cancer). i strongly believe its helped her through all of this without having all of the breakdowns that ive been having myself!
sometimes its hard to convince someone else they should consider taking an antidepressant because they dont want to feel like theyre not in control. its just something you all should mention to him and tell him lots of cancer patients do take antidepressants. I mean, if anyone in the world should be on them, I think it is cancer patients! That is a real problem

My Mother suffered with Depression all her life and surprise all
3 of her daughters have been diagnoised with chronic mild depression. That means we all have a gene that just doesn't release enough of what we need to feel as I do today. I tried Everything exercise, St John Wort, group therapy. Nothing helped
I would go and cry asking how could I feel so sad, when I had everything.
I don't quite get why it is ok for a diabetic to use insulin but
anything goes wrong in your head you are weak or lazy or somehow
unable to cope. They don't make you feel unlike yourself but they do allow you to hope again, laugh again and be happy.
Sorry for the lecture I just had to get that off my chest.

thanks everyone!!

fortunately he is open to the idea of taking antidepressants. i never considered caregivers also taking them but i am not surprised. they go through just as much.

i'll keep you posted on how it goes with them over the next few weeks- does it take effect immediately?

i was a psych major, i really should know this!

Most antidepressants usually take up to 2 months to kick in. Ask the doc who is prescribing the meds. Some newer meds show results in a week or 2.

Best of luck with everything!!!!!

Hi Palmtree-i live in NJ also. I have met some of the wonderful people on this board at the Andover walk. It is a wonderful event. Let me know via pm if there's any questions I can answer for you regarding your future FIL's treatment. My husband went thru similar surgery, chemo, and rads.
