Hi all!

So tonight I decided I needed to get back on my fluoride trays since I stopped using them when my mouth pain got too bad. I am almost 2 months out from rads and chemo.

So I put them in but could only leave them in for about 6 minutes as my mouth started tingling and bothering me. Have any of you had this happen? Have others stopped the trays for a while post rads? Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Linda

I cant remember going thru anything like that, Linda. After rads most patients have a very sensitive mouth for months. The fluoride trays are very important to use. Rads does quite a number on your teeth! I ended up losing my teeth after going thru rads. My teeth shifted and became so loose I was afraid they would fall right out when I tried to eat something.

You may find relief if you try to first numb your mouth with magic mouthwash and then try to use the fluoride trays again. If you dont have magic mouthwash (MM), ask your doc for a prescription for it. There are several versions available. I had a mix of maalox, benedryl and lidocain and it worked great for me. Make sure not to swallow it!!! Take about 2 teaspoons full of MM and swish it around in yoru mouth for at least 30 seconds and spit it out. Your mouth should be numbed for a good 15 minutes or more.

Hope this help!!!
