That was the provocative blurb on the cover of April AARP Bulletin under bold red: Cancer Relief
I'd link to the article but that would be hypocritical since I often bust posters who ignore Brian's plain, simple and reasonable request for this forum
No linking to other sites from this forum please
The article itself though cited things I never considered "fringe" (or I am more alternative than I realized) such as
Meditation, Acupuncture, self-hypnosis, massage, Yoga and Reiki.
It summarized research by the NIH's National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. But it also balanced it out with warnings by the chief of Integrative Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering:
We spend half of our time working against quackery. It's really a bad situation. What patients see on the Internet is extremely seductive
It ended up on the note that due to the placebo effect: doing something, anything, may have healing powers of its own.
Just thought I share. If you want to read it, you can type in the title: Battling Cancer in the search box on the AARP web site's Health page which otherwise reproduces most of the MD Anderson clinic series of articles on cancer in general.
Hmmn, I'll have to join on line and post a commentary about OCF as a resource.

Hi, Charm -
Catching up on my AARP & saw the article. It said that acupuncture has been successful in restoring some saliva in Head & Neck Cancer patients. Anyone have any experience?

for my part ancedotal only. My prothodontist who specializes in oral cancer said he has referred many patients for accupuncture with about a 50% success rate in increasing saliva.
Before I could try it myself, the cancer came back and now my mouth is drowning in saliva & mucous since I can't swallow even the former trickles that barely registered before mount up when they have no where to go. I'd rather have the dry mouth back again and be able to eat and swallow and just drink my 16 bottle of water a day like I used to.

Aw, geez! If only OC were a "simple" cancer, but it keeps on giving.
