HPV Negative - recurrences? - 06-02-2009 09:41 PM
Well, just got the test results a few minutes ago via email in preparation for my MO visit and last chemo treatment.
My tumor tested HPV Negative. I had always thought that HPV caused my cancer with a universe of partners prior to settling down with my wife ("Another Girl, another planet" was a favorite 70s song) I began to doubt it when the recurrence came since studies are showing that HPV responds better to treatment than non-HPV. But I could not get my first tumor biopsy tested back in 07 as that was not the protocol at the CCC. Now the Lombardi CCC 'routinely" tests Head and Neck cancer tumors for HPV as the evidence develops that it is a factor in treatment efficacy. Never thought the day would come when I would have wanted a STD test to be positive.
