Yet another Friday the 13th, it is 42 degrees outside yet they are predicting snow or at least rain, but like the Mary Chapin-Carpenter song goes
I feel Lucky today
Well I am finally recovering from the MedStar Mayhem inflicted on me for 11 nights and 12 days. Seriously, I have now started to put on 2 lbs a day instead of losing 2 lbs a day. I am changing my stoma (traech hole in throat that looks like a sideways cat-eye) dressing 5 times a day instead of the one it got at GT. I "drink" 10 bottles of Deer Park water a day instead of getting 3 cups of DC tap water. I use exactly the same amount of Percocet but exactly ZERO morphine or any other pain killer. I sleep for 2 to 3 hours uninterrupted instead of one hour. I can fall back asleep in a half an hour instead of two hours. I take at least 3 refreshing naps a day instead of NONE. Last, but not least, I "eat" 2130 calories a day instead of 1420. Finally I NEVER Vomit instead of once a day. To continue with the song's verse
oh oh oh, I feel lucky, yeah No tropical depression gonna steal my sun away Mmmmm, I feel lucky today
Still dealing with hospital mistakes via email to Patient Advocate but with my trademark smart ass style instead of the angry diatribe. Enough stitches have fallen out that I may be able to shave the goofy "radiation beard" by Tuesday ,St. Patrick's day when I have my first follow up appointment with the Surgeon who cut out a third to half of my tongue and when I will finally get to see the full pathology report.
I know that for many of the OCF posters, a more relevant song would be "born under a bad sign" with the verse:
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.
so I had to post this early today
PEACE AND LOVE

Charm,

Your scales must be off or somethings wrong because to gain one pound you must consume appx 3500 more calories than you expend and usually that's spread over a weeks time to break it down in 500 extra calories per day increments. Same is generally true for loosing weight. So if we follow this, in order for you to gain 2 pounds in just one day then you would have to consume your bodies' normal caloric requirement, say 2000 to 2500 calories PLUS 7000 more calories. Now constipation may help for a day or two of measuring but sooner or later you're going to looses that weight as well. lol

David

DEHYDRATION: I am triple certified on the weight issue from the hospital bed scales, the 3 beam free standing at the gym, and my home super duper scale. My weight loss was almost all WATER. When I was in the hospital until I left my urine was an incredibly dark orange, my skin had no elasticity, sunken abdomen, gaunt cheeks, dry mouth and tongue, no tears, no saliva, and almost comatose. Think of a sponge. Now that I am putting not only 6 cans of Jevity 1.5 in, my wife counted 10 full half liter bottles of deer park water (1 pint 9 fl oz each bottle)"drank" yesterday.
It is the simple reverse of the weight loss scams, where people lose "weight" when it is only water loss. As you probably know this is only valid for a 10 pound spread roughly. Yes, incredible that this happened in a hospital and I have filed a formal long complaint with the patient advocate about this egregious neglect. My weight will probably stablize today and then it will be just as you described. Even though Water has no calories, the lack of it will cause rapid and immediate weight loss. Remember my frantic posts at dawn while imprisoned at Georgetown under Interventional Radiology's ban on any fluids, including IVs. constipation is not an issue due to suppositories. Yes it is good to see that my urine is now "MELLOW YELLOW"

technical information here.when we don't eat and drink properly the body gets glycogen stored in the liver for energy, when its used up the glycogen store it starts on the body fat and we loose real weight. The glycogen store in the liver accounts for approx 6 lbs and when we start to eat and drink again it is immediately replaced so your weight goes up rapidly for about two or three days.
urine retention will cause tissue swelling and puffiness and may cause a slight weight gain, but rehydration and an increase in urine output will cause weight loss, that will be replaced as soon as you drink again,so does not constitute genuine weight just fluctuating scales.

I would think once you reach a six pound weight gain you will find the increase slowing down.

they say women fixate ontheir weight but you two are a real pair of girls lmao

Guess you don't have wild bull moose over the pond. What could be less girlie or more macho than two alpha males like David and myself butting heads and thrusting our antlers at each other. LOL
One reason I keep my gender neutral screen name is that it usually keeps the few brave male posters on overwhelmingly female boards like this from "poking me" on an unconscious level. My wife chides me that
just because you are punching and hitting them with words instead of your fists, does not make it any better -behave !
For David to suggest that I don't understand the mechanics of weight loss and gain or that my hi tech toys don't work is fighting words woman. Now EZJim being a man understands this very well, hence his post.
Of course in this context, it is really no more than comradely little jabs to each other shoulders as David is the sole reason I did not abandon the OCF the very month I joined after my blustery brutal insensitive relaunching of the "great PEG wars" prompted a well deserved smack down by Brian over some low blows I threw about if you did not have surgery you did not need a PEG. It's tough being a tough guy/warrior.
After a while, the teenage mask of rebel and strength becomes a permanently attached sword and shield. I bet Rob and I would have gotten along famously and been the best of drinking buddies.

Oh how right you are charm,i am sure you would have got along famously lol, though i cant imagine anything less macho and alpha male than rob was post operatively LMAO.Still i guess you can't take the bull out of the moose no matter what the situation.
So you two !girls ! keep playing handbags at dawn because i love it.
