Tizz here,

Some of you may know that my alter ego is "Meredith", and Brian kindly put my stories up in the "Patient Stories", in the "People" section. I was recorded on radio reading them (on Australia's ABC Radio National, "The Science Show") last year (at my croaky best!), and they haven't been aired as yet. Might be dead before they are, knowing our Government budget cuts!

Anyway, I sent a link to my dentist (whose mortgage is probably paid off by now, with compliments to radio... wink ), and he sent me this message:

"Hi Meredith,

Thankyou for sharing your experiences with me (and the world).

I only get to see a stilted version of most patients - the 'I am at the dentist and don't really want to be here' persona.

Thankyou for sharing another facet and allowing me a glimpse of the non dental patient person.

Thankyou also from a professional point of view for the details of treatment and your feelings towards Tx."

I'm pleased about making some progress in OZ towards awareness. My dentist is also the secretary of the ADA (Australian Dentists Association).

Cheers!

Tizz (aka Meredith)

Hi Tizz

You have done some great work on awareness in Australia - almost since the day you were diagnosed.

H+N cancer doesn't seem to be given any publicity here even though we have our fair share of smokers and drinkers (not that they are the only causes).

I was distressed to see four women under 30 at the clinic I attended recently and one of them was under 20 - all h+n oncology patients.

Thankyou for letting us know about your proactive work, love from Helen cool
