Our little boy, David, almost 3 - is having his third ear surgery in the morning at 6:30. I'm sure he'll be fine and this is considered minor surgery and it's done as an outpatient at one of the hospitals here. I'm just a mommy so I worry. David has basically had an ear infection since he was 2 weeks old. His don't go away no matter what you do with antibiotics - they just continue and they go away when he gets tubes put in. But those tubes eventually fall out and we start the process again. So anyway - this doesn't have anything to do with oral cacner, but I just wanted you guys to be thinking of us tomorrow morning.

THANKS!!!!!!

Michelle- Best wishes to your son. Mine had the ear tubes also. Thankfully it only took one time for him. Your son will most likely grow out of the infections soon enough. Sue

Michelle,

I hope that David does well with the tubes. Problems with the ears are common in our family and the tubes have provided relief.
One grandchild always had ear infections and the tubes provided only temporary relief. She was once in the hospital because the infection was so bad. Finally a pediatric ENT diagnosed a problem which required surgery and the infections stopped. If David continues to have problems ask for a referal to a pediatric specialist as continued antibiotics are not good for anyone.
We are fortunate to have an excellent children's hospital here and from experiences there with my grandchildren, I would recommend that all children be taken care of in facilities which treat only children. The difference between that and what we had when I was a child and my children were young is remarkable. We had a scare with a seven year old which required several tests and would have been much easier on him if done in such a facility.

With a first name like David, I'm sure he'll be fine.

David - I think you're right :-), that's my father's name also - hence my little David's name.

He came through the surgery like a champ. The only difference this time was he had a tube down his throat and IV. Surgeon said adenoids were big and the removal of those along with the new tubes should make a significant difference.

Malka - we have consulted with a specialist also and so far same diagnosis. We will re-consult if this continues. We dont' have a Children's Hospital in Montgomery, but there is one of the top ones in the nation in Birmingham, only about an hour away. I feel much more confident in this surgeon and he is not the same one who did the first two surgeries.

Thanks for all your kind words/thoughts/prayers. I am one tired mommy - we've been up since 3:00 because he coldn't sleep. Grandma went with me so hubby could sleep in.

Michelle:

I hope your little guy is feeling better today. Surgery is always difficult when children are little. Most children outgrow the ear problems, I hope your son does too.
