I edited my signature and now it is totally gone from my posts on the forum. When I preview it on the "Edit Profile" page, it is there. Is it another gremlin in the new software?

Must be the punctuation characters. I am able to view it behind the scenes. I will attempt to fix it. If I cant, I will pass it along to our IT specialist.


Okay... I was able to fix it. The problem was the " " marks.

This software is going to get updated within the next week. We will have to close the boards down for 24 hours to do so. There is a lot of information archived here, more than 250,000 posts alone, so migrating everything to the new version doesn't happen in a few hours. This is finally going to get fixed.

I for one am so glad to hear this! Will the fix be able to retrieve all the old posts that are now blank? Will we be able to use copy and paste once again?

If possible can there be a message on the website alerting everyone that the forum is closed for maintenance during this time?

When the forum closes for the day, there will be a message that appears. Obviously we want people to know we're in maintenance upgrade mode, not that the forum is gone forever.

I don't think this upgrade is going to retrieve missing messages, but you never know, the new software may recognize them and display them, but the owner that licenses the software to OCF has not made that claim.

I should mention after looking at the support boards of people who have already installed the up date, it does not fix everything and certain things, will likely still trigger a problem. Something that I do, and I see Christine did above me is put three periods at the end of a comment meaning there's more to the thought unsaid. But in the new php code that runs our web site server and more, it will trigger a problem, So wile things will get better, we will still have to be careful about copy and paste, and some special characters that the code recognizes as commands and cause a conflict - which it will resolve by not executing the post. It's not a perfect world.

By the by Christine gets away with it because we can post in html which non admins cannot do. It's also not a fair world I suppose.

the code scans for bad words and deletes your messages. After 5 deletes, your account gets deleted. Keep it clean!

you are trying too soon - the upgrade hasn't taken place yet. We have been in the middle of a major rebuild of the OCF web site to add content and to make it more pad and phone friendly. Once that is done the boards are next.
