My wife had surgery 1 year ago and had half her tongue removed, when another tumour was found 5 months later they gave her radiation and chemo. 3 months after chemo her jaw bone started hurting and in the last three months has just gotten worse. A pet scan and mri show nothing so neither the surgeon or oncoligist can offer any reason for the pain that is in the jawbone not in the joint.Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Tomy, welcome to OCF. Im sorry to hear about your wifes pain in her jawbone. After going thru radiation, there can be many after effects including pain. Sorry but I do not have more helpful info for you.

Yes it's very possible that the jaw issues are related to the radiation. I get pain along my jaw too, sometimes it's just from swelling in my cheeks, (I'm under 5 months out. ) sometimes it can cause fibrosis, and bone necrosis. or maybe just nerve issues. If the Drs can't find anything it's probably related to the radiotherapy. I'd she have a neck dissection. I find fluid build up makes my chin hurt at a certain point. Good luck and welcome!
