I can't help but wonder why there seems to be so many with OC in and around Pennsylvania!

It made me remember that I visited Philly less than a year before my Dx.

The water did taste strange!

I just received a phone call from my Dr telling me my CAT was clear, so they will not be giving me any Chemo, only rad. I feel like this is great news what do you all think?

The chemo is usually reserved for those where the cancer has spread from the Primary site so with a clear CAT that's a positive sign and in my opinion the less toxic the treatment is to achieve the desired results, the better.

David, you are always such a wealth of knowledge. I didn't know that about the chemo. I thought RT and Chemo always went together. Nice that some can get by w/out both.

Good luck wfc, glad to hear you have a great support system.

David:
I believe that it is standard treatment now to give chemo with radiation as the chemo sensitizes the tumor for radiaton. Chemo with radiation it not limited only to tumors that have spread to adjacent areas. All the studies I've read stated this is more effective than radiation alone.

This is not to say that some oral cancers can't be treated with radiation only. It's the doctor's call based on staging, etc.

If possible, check out different radiation machines/techniques.
Given such a positive report from the CAT, you want the machine that will spare you a lot of long term after effects such as "dry mouth." etc.

I am going to be doing TomoTherapy which is very exact, and spares a lot of heathy tissue.
