Hello all, My dad is in the beginning of fighting tonsil cancer. He has a great attitiude and doctors seem optomistic but everything I read seems so bad. I am scared. He has been staged at 4A. It is in his left tonsil and in the one lymph node. His lungs are clear. He will have a PET scan next week. A feeding tube in next week and then chemo and radiation started. Did I say I am scared? Is there any positive outcomes here? I know this will be the hardest thing he and we have ever gone through but we will fight! I feel like this cancer went from nothing to something SOOO fast! Already stage 4 and we just found the lump! I am 37 and my dad is 58. Thanks for any advice, words, honesty...Carrie

Welcome to OCF Carrie. Of course you are scared, a cancer diagnosis can be terrifying. Of course there are positive outcomes. People go thru this successfully, Ive dont it twice. Its not easy but it can be accomplished.

Its good to hear your father has a strong support system in place to help him thru this. Right now is the time to get ready. Have him eat as much as he can, all his favorites. Unfortunately, he probably will not be able to eat properly for quite some time once treatments start.

Has your father had a neck dissection? I had always thought the PET scan determined the stage. What is his treatment plan? Is he being treated at a cancer center?

When you have time, please add a signature so we can help you easier. There is also tons of info on the main OCF pages. Best of luck to your father with his upcoming treatments.
