From what my brother has told me, the cancer affects his soft palette, muscles, and a vein. Initially the ENT said my brother would need to have everything surgically removed. There is so much I don't know and I want to be a good advocate for him. Any suggestions? | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,140 Likes: 1 Patient Advocate (1000+ posts) | Patient Advocate (1000+ posts) Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 1,140 Likes: 1 | pensaul, I know this is a very scary time for you. Be sure to take notes when you go with your brother. You will then have more information, which will surely prompt specific questions. In the meantime, I direct you to the information section of this site, which provides quite an education. You might want to check out the section about the effects of radiation, as well as the threads on this forum dealing with that. There are many experienced and knowledgeable people who are members of this forum, so whatever questions you may have will surely be answered. Good luck to you and your brother!

If you read this after the appointment don't be afraid to call and ask any questions you may have later. Ask the doctor how much of this type of cancer they treat. Don't be intimidated out of getting a second opinion if that would make you more comfortable. ilene
