11 Months since initial surgery. Numbness seems to be clearing up. Some discomfert which I mentioned to ENT guy during regular visit. He orderd PET Scan. Apparently he has seen some cloudy spots in lymph area and bottom of mouth. Now starts a series of biopsy's etc. Needless to say very concerned. Anybody had any similar after treatment experiences

Sorry to hear of your worries. It is sooo scary.
Hope biopsy is clean.

Sailor,
The PET scan is a great test to use for our type of cancer, but it can cause us alot of needless worry. I just went through this myself. My PET scan showed a spot on my lung, which scared me to death. It turned out to be scar tissue. See what your ENT has to say and what he does and keep us posted.

My husband Leon just went through this last month. He had a PET Scan and it came back with high activity at base of tongue and surgical bed. He had a biopsy done the beginning of August and it came back all clear. They are chalking up the high activity on the PET to scar tissue.

Rhonda - Caregiver to husband Leon. Diagnosed with SCC of right tonsil, 1 lymph node. Right tonsilectomy 10/3/05 - Right neck dissectomy 10/12/05, completed 39 IMRT treatments 2/23/06.

One of my scans came back all lit up because I had the flu the prior week. I even mentioned this to the technicians and asked if I should reschedule. ...Spots on lungs...active lymph nodes... The doctors called my wife and left messages like 'We got the test back and call back immediately etc...'. Freaked out the wife. They just tested me 30 days later and it came back all clear. Bottom Line - pet scans don't detect cancer - biopsies do.

Seems the Scan was accurate and "it" has returned under tongue in back on floor of the mouth. Although the Nodes again seem clean Now in planning stages of Rad & Chemo (some 8weeks etc). This stuff never seems to let go. O well could have been worse for sure.
