I get mine out MOnday, and I am happy but it sounds so barbaric. Is there anyone that had this done it did not hurt? Why must it hurt so bad? Should I take pain medicine before I go?

My advise, take you pain meds. It's not real bad, but VERY uncomfortable.

Thanks Kevin, I am so scared and you should see all the surgery and pain I have been through. The pulling just seems so neandethal in this day and age.

Dear Peace, John said when they pulled his, it hurt for 30 to 45 seconds and then he was just a little sore for a few days while the hole healed. Amy in the Ozarks

I did not take anything before, and it hurt like blue blazes for a very short time, just enough time for me to scream bloody murder (which I looked at as a benefit because I had never before been able to do that in a public place without censure). Seriously, the severe pain was probably not more than 2-3 seconds if that long. It was a little sore afterwards, but I still didn't need any meds. Healed quickly. Given what many of us have been through, this is way down on the list of stuff for which we have to be tough. Don't get too wound up about this, as it just isn't worth the worry because it is over so fast. Good luck!

I had to have mine replaced and to be honest with you it wasnt that bad. It will get your attention coming out but it didnt hurt whatsoever when they did mine. Then they greased up the site and popped the new one right back in. I know of others who had a bad experience with it but mine wasnt bad at all.

Thanks you guys,
Just changing the bandage on mine earlier today and for the 1st time in 6 months it is bleeding. Going tomorrow for removal. Is this an omen? I have not done anything. Anyone else have anybleeding. I am going crazy with this little small thing here.

Peace4uall---by this time you have had it out, hope all went well. The morning before I had mine out I took some ativan and some leftover roxicet I had. I don't think it made any difference--it hurt like heck. You'll be so glad it's gone. I am using mederma on the scar to see if it helps it to heal looking less like a belly button.

Well,
Its out and just to officially let you know, it really did hurt, but like you say, just for a second. No real pain because it is not hooked to anything but this was neither the balloon or the pigtail that Brian talks about not being painful. It was a rubber stopper on the end that when pulled will collapse a little but must make it through all the layers in your stomach and it is like a pulling out of your stomach!! The doctor looked at me when I screamed and asked if I was alright. I just asked if it was out and he said Yes, I said well then I made it. WHEW!! I still think this is barbaric. By the way, they gave me a local and it stung so bad I am not sure it was worth it, but must have helped somewhat. Just to let you know. Today, I feel like a donkey kicked me in my stomach and have much bleeding and draining so I am trying to stay as still as I can to let this thing heal up.
Take care all-this is quite a ride.
