Hello Kris

I didn't know that the US didn't have Boxing Day (26 December). I guess it came to Australia with our British heritage. Does Canada have it?

From Google: 'The day after Christmas, the Feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, is better known as Boxing Day. The term may come from the opening of church poor boxes that day; maybe from the earthenware boxes with which boy apprentices collected money at the doors of their masters' clients. '

I learn so much from this board. Love from Helen cool

I once got a refill for my DayTimer and it included a little sticker for all the world's holidays. Of course, I put all the Japanese holiday reminders on the correct pages plus as many as I could (or before I got bored with the task). I made it a point to leave voice mails for several co-workers' with a brisk announcement of the holiday. Happy Boxing Day was the one that got the most reponses! I'm sure they all wish I still worked there! eek

Hi Guys,
I was once told by one of my very English coworkers that Boxing Day was the day that all the servants received presents (hence, boxes) from their masters.

Have a Happy New Year everyone!!

I forgot to mention that Boxing Day is also a Japanese holiday and everyone exchanges (boxed) presents.
