Just a note Erik.... I tried someones suggestion about Lavender oil to help sleep... I happened to have a bottle because it was suppose to help scars disappear... and I had a mole removed on my face. Well it really didn't do much for the scars but it really puts me to sleep! Even my 11 year old son zonks in less than 10 minutes! It doen't take much and too much doesn't smell nice but a little reminds my of that scene in The Wizard of OZ ."Poppies...that will make them sleep...poppies...sleep...sleep.....Erik!"
Good luck
Karen

Hey, Karen, I`m a very firm believer in lavender oil, if it could knock Frank out, it`s pretty potent. I just put a couple drops on a tissue, and it`s also good for anxiety and panic attacks. I also used lavender with pure aloe vera juice on Frank`s neck after his first round of radiation. Believe me, it`s one essential oil, I`m never without, and essential oil of geranium will stop a cold sore in it`s tracks........Hugs, Dee

Oil? I just take about three steps out of the kitchen door and pick some. It's right there next to the marjoram, oregano, parsley, fennel, rosemary and thyme...why that would be across the walkway from the curry, dill, sage, lemon basil, gotu kola and hyacinth bean. I may have missed some.

Erik,

Try garling with baking soda. It is temporary at best but it really thins out the thick stuff.

You are going to get through this man. The cool thing is after it is done, every week that goes by you wont beleive how much better you feel and how shitty you felt. I am about 2.5 months post and I feel a little better every day. I am eating, tasting but not really enjoying. Everything still tastes a little funny.

Erik,

The baking soda does help. It took about 6-8 weeks after radiation for mine to thin out. I thought I might go insane, but I didn't. It is frustrating as it can be. My speech pathologist said that everyone complains about it. I said duh, why don't they come up with something that fixes the problem then. or better yet find a cure for this awful disease. I tend of oversimplify.

Good luck
Lynn

Hey would you all mind putting the herbal information in the "Adjunctive Therapy" section? I want to be able to find it later!

smile

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.

Hey, mark, I agree, we need to get this stuff on adjunctive therapy............i`m a little uncomforable with aromatherapy and such, unless it`s adjunctive........cause, I for one, being an RN need to be in the middle ground.......I know adjunctive stuff works, but I`m n way avocating it for western medicine.Hugs, Dee
