I don't know if this is allowed or not, but I have enteral feeding supplies and liquid nutrition that is paid for but no longer needed by my husband (who thoroughly enjoys food now). I have tried to find someplace local to donate it to, but have not had any luck. Does anybody have any ideas for donating it to someone who needs it but can't afford it? I would prefer to donate to an individual because I don't trust the medical community regarding billing. I suspect they would take the free supplies and then bill some person's insurance for it anyway. That is probably not fair, but I guess I am a bit of a control freak.

See if there are Home Heath Care Agencies or Nursing homes in your community athat can use those supplies. Once the Ins. Co has paid the supplier, neither of them cares what you do with it. I have over $2000.00 worth of stuff that has ben paid for that I will donate to various agencies, and I have already given away over $600.00 worth[as per Ins biling} of canned nutrition. If you are not able to find a source close to home, post your list here. I also shipped extra supplies to OCF members who could use them. Amy in the Ozarks

The many cases of unopened food I ended up with were very gratefully received by the county nursing home. This is not one of the upscale, expensive places, but they do a very good job on a limited budget. When I showed up, having called first, six guys ran out to unload my truck. Keep calling, there will be someone who will be overjoyed to have your supplies.

Or, if you seriously do not trust institutions, you might check with the nurses where your husband was treated to see who else might be using those supplies.

Amy,

Thank you for the suggestions (even though I'm not the one who asked!) My Uncle has 24 can flats of three different types of liquid nutrition still in his kitchen and his garage stacked up and every time I walk by them, they catch my eye and nag at me. I've been trying to think of a local (to him) cancer facility to give all this stuff too but (duh), nursing homes can use it too. There are lots of older people who can't eat by mouth anymore for a wide variety of reasons.

Thanks!
Lisa

Lisa, hope the "leftovers" find a good home. Let's remember that much of the canned nutrients we use for peg tubes can also be ataken by mouth as a caloric boost.Home Health Care organizations as well as Nursing Homes can use these products. Amy in the Oz

To add to my earlier post about taking the food to the nursing home, many of the patients are there on a temporary basis, recovering from surgery or illness. I was told that the canned food was sent home with patients to make sure they had something easy and nutritious to eat. As I never want to ever see another can of that stuff, it was a good place for it.
