It has been some time since I made a general posting on this board regarding some of my PERSONAL opinions. Many new posters have arrived that may not have looked back through all the postings and I thought it a good time to reiterate a few things that come up all the time.

First I would like everyone to remember that this is a public forum, you can voice your opinions, share your experiences, offer insights and ideas to those who post questions. The voices of those who have been through it all are invaluable to those just beginning the path. OCF does not edit your posts, and you are free to say what you feel. Over the last year it has certainly become a safe place to vent frustrations, whether about the speed of recovery, an insensitive doctor of hospital staff, or a spouse that doesn

Brian,
In addition to helping my friend, I'd also like to extend assistance to patients and families who are struggling with medical bills. I work in the industry...specifically with reimbursement issues for hospitals and I know how complex and frustrating they can be. Sometimes just understanding what you've been billed for and why is a chore. I would also add that the bills can be so complex at times that it is difficult to determine if you've been billed correctly. I also know that there are a lot of resources out there that most folks are not aware of to handle these bills. If I can be of any help, please have folks email me directly and I would be happy to see what I can do to help them.
Thanks,
Amy

Thats is a generous offer considering what a pain billing can be to all of us. I suggest that you copy and paste it into a new idea thread/topic here in the general forum, so people will find it. At the end of my blast of hot air it may get lost.....

Just a little story about medical bills: I get these bills from MD Anderson that make no sense to me. I sent in payments, but never knew what I really owed. I had a bill saying that I owed roughly $3000. I called the number on the bill and got some gobblygook from the person about what was allocated to the Drs. and what to the hospital. I said I don't know what you are talking about, I just send in the money and haven't a clue how it is allocated.
So one day I stopped by the financial office and sat down with a counselor. It turns out that the payments were put aside and not credited to either the Drs. or the hospital. It turned out I only owed about $300.
Crazy system. Anyone who can figure out and keep up with their insurance statements and the hospital bills must be a wizard.
