That's so great that you helped your dentist and untimately his patients. You should feel proud in that you also may share in helping to save someone's life.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.

April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.

Thanks for finding the newscast and passing it on. I think the station and the dentist did a great job. I have a feeling that the same PR person for LED, the manufacturer of the VELscope, set this up, too. I will ask her the next time we speak. BTW, she is in the process of setting up an interview with CBS now, for me.
Glad to see that the dentist is keeping the charge for using the light low, as are we in our office. I've heard that some offices are charging as much as $65. I think that this would discourage many people from having the exam done as most insurance companies won't pay for it...yet!
