Today my husband gets a PEG tube. He is in day surgery as I type. Alan is Stage 4 and the Tumor is obstructing the esophagus. He has lost so much weight that the Medical Oncologist said he is too fragile for Chemo or Radiation therapy. We are supose to go to the CC on the 11th of JUly to be re-evaluated.
I so hope he will gain some energy and be less dehidrated with the PEG. I know this is terminal this time but I would so like him more comfortable. He chokes when ever he tries to swallow anything.

Hello Mar

This is a tried and true supplement for patients with a PEG.

Ask the Doctor for a RX for Carnation Instant Breakfast VHC. Some insurance companies will cover it.

Try Carnation Instant Breakfast VHC. It has 560 nutritional balanced calories in a 8 oz can and will cut the misery and the time in feedings. You order it thru your pharmacy dept and some have suggested that if you get a prescription for it, your insurance company will pick up the tab. I only pay about $32.00 per 24 can case at Walgreen

Mar,
So sorry to hear Alan's having such a tough time. The PEG will help a lot. Unfortunately Carnation VHC is not available in Canada. If you go to Shoppers Drug Mart, or Walmart pharmacy and order Resource 2.0 it has just as many calories, and is really easy to tolerate compared to a lot of the other preparations around.

Make sure though that they order Resource 2.0 and not resource plus. the 2.0 has a much higher calorie count. I spent almost 5 months living on nothing but Resource...it's good stuff.

Is your trip in July back to the Tom Baker?
