Has anyone gone in to have the PEG put in and they were not able to see the light through the stomach wall? They said they could have put one in but it was too close to his heart so they opted to wait. I guess they are going to do a CAT scan and then put it in. They've decided to do this on the same day they're going to do his first chemo and radiation. Is this alright? I was also wondering if everyone receiving treatment is given a case worker. My friend needs someone who he can talk with and will help him through the process. Someone who will advocate for him and can search out answers to his questions. Who on the cancer team plays that role and does every facility have one he can ask for?

Smitty, if he has insurance, he can request a case manager to be assigned to him. These people are nurses and are usually assigned based on their being somewhat familiar with the cancer you are dealing with. We have had 2-from 2 different Ins. Companies and both have helped us validate claims so they would be paid. I don't use them for medical advice, but I do use them to substantiate drugs, tube feed nutrients, at home medical equipment and supplies. It cuts down on the arguements we have with the Ins. co. Be nice to them at the get go and they will usually be of great help. Amy

I didn't really start having problems for a couple of weeks after treatment started - he should be ok.

It sounds to me like you're his advocate. We're here to help you.
