Hi all, Can anyone share their experiences with depression after surgery/ I am having one heck of a time with these mood swings. My surgeon says its normal, but, this is horrible.

Thanks to all,

Molly

Molly, there are too many variables, age, etc. But depression in any form is unacceptable. There is chemical help available. This surgeon of yours is wrong or doesn't understand that this is serious to you. Tell him you need help....

Hi Molly,

I agree with Darrell.

But if you are having mood swings, you may be able to handle yourself. I had the same experience after my treatment and surgery, tired, feeling down, etc. I was able to beat it, by resigning myself to heal, workout etc. I found limited exercise really helped and made me heal faster. It also just got me moving agian. The radiation fried my thyroid, so some synthroid or other thyroid med helped me.

Keep after it.

Molly, Having just read your previous posts, I'd say you have been through ALOT in the last few months. You body is trying to heal from several invasive surgeries and your brain is trying to cope with all of this. If your surgeon is not sympathetic, go find someone who is. Do you have a family Doc.? Don't shortchange the trauma you have experienced. Take care. Amy

Hi Molly,
I am not sure how depressed you are now after treatment. In my case, I suffered from severe depression 3 months after completing treatment. I had to be hospitalised for one month for daily psychiatric counseling and medication. I had to take anti-depressants for almost 2 years before I was fully recovered. Depression can be very frightening.Don't overlook those depression symptoms.
