Okay, I know we have some posters that live in and around Vegas. I also (if I remember right) know someone posted on the boards about a shooting range in Vegas.

Please, we need information - name, location and phone number of the shooting range that was mentioned. (or others)

Some of us like the thought of "Taking Aim at Cancer" while in Vegas.

Thanks for your help,
Dinah

Here you go: http://www.thegunstorelasvegas.com/
They even have a $5.00 off coupon. Maybe we can get a group rate. Could be a good publicity thing for all concerned.

Brian mentioned getting targets made up that look like cancer cells. I've tried to get into the site, but Dongguan Telcom, in their infinate wisdom have managed to "block" access. I'll be in HK next week for follow up scans, I'll try and remember to check the site from there.

The idea "Taking Aim at Cancer" sounds great. This ought to tick off Micheal Moore and the gun control lobby big time!!!.

PC is what I type e-mails on.

OK........On Brian's advise I checked The Gun Club about indoor shooting range. They don't take reservations but will be happy to help us. Rentals range from $15.00 for handguns to $25.00 for assault rifles! Holy Cow! They are 3.5 miles down Tropicana from the "Strip".
Mark, thank you for the link.

Ok, here's a harebrained idea, (my apologies to hares).

Been a long time since I've done firearms target shooting, I suspect there's a point scoring stystem with all this. How about one of these deals like the cancer/name your disease walks and we get sponsors for donation to OCF.. So much a point based on so many rounds fired.

Keeps us from aimlessly shooting up targets.

Bob

I almost hate to get involved in this one, I have to carry one but I am not a fan. Anyway, here goes. I can get some standard silhouette targets from work and you guys can just shoot at the head and neck area. Let me know and I'll send them out. I'm not sure if I can make it since, if I'm well enough I plan on being in Aruba the next week for the Music fest.

Your welcome Judy, But it was Gary that time.

Bob the whole idea IS to aimlessly shoot up ammo :p

GLENN (i got it right that time) I like the target idea but do we call it malpractice if we shoot the head off? laugh

I know they have silhouette targets there for the concealed weapons classes. Maybe we need a 3D target. It's a small range. They have about 1/2 dozen firing positions. They provide hearing and eye protection as part of the package. They also have an instructor present at all times to insure safety and everyone gets instruction on range safety. They DO care about your aim though -they prefer that you hit the target and will help you with that. Most ranges don't like you shooting up the joint. Machine guns, even ones with little kick like the M16, tend to climb when fired so it's better to fire them in 3 round bursts (just think fractionalized radiation). My wife fired the M16 (first time ever on an automatic weapon) and I chose the Thompson submachine gun (which is a very heavy gun). I have mpegs -if anyone is interested email me privately and (if you have enough bandwidth) I'll email it to you.

This is politically incorrect enough that we could probably get CNN or Fox to cover it -talk about OCF getting some nationwide exposure! I know the NRA would love it.

I just love wearing my Gunstore machine gun t-shirt around Northern California - bastion of the bleeding heart liberals.

Mesquite is actually only an hour away, less if I'm driving smile . I went there last fall for a wonderful day spa. For those of us non-shooters, I'd highly recommend a couple pamper treatments and some time in the mineral pool. It is called the CasaBlanca Hotel & Casino.

OK besides all the shooting noise, I know there are several musicians here. How about a VERY informal jam session?

Sabrina, I like your idea of a SPA day for those of us not interested in guns!

I'm not sure yet if I am going to Las Vegas or not. This is my first time onboard in a few months, I've been away. (for good reasons! I'm healthy and travelling!) cool

ps. although personally against guns, I do like the idea of "Taking Aim Against Cancer" and think it could be used for good publicity! If you're going to shoot guns at least its for a good cause!

When I came back from 'Nam I never picked up a gun again. I'm not anti gun; it just has negative repercussions in my memory. But if it made a good news story I would do it in a heartbeat. Since I am not planning the Las Vegas get together, I do not know if this is something that is actually going to happen and if besides the meals there are any "group" day plans. Sometimes it's better to have some time together... like the meals etc., and time for people to pair up, go solo, or whatever without feeling that their every minute is planned out. Just an observation. I'd just as soon schmooze with people form OCF around the pool or whatever. If it is something that we are really going to do, while it may be fun to pop off a few rounds, those that are involved in making this thing happen, should decide if this is a viable part of our getting together, and if so, arrange for the pistol range and make calls to the local media people to pitch them on a human interest story. We might as well milk it for some PR as well as have fun.

Last time I shot anything that resembled a firearm (that used gunpowder anyway) was in Boy Scout summer camp. Difficult to keep the hand rolled cartridges and percussion caps dry in damp weather let me tell you!!

While this all sounds like a good idea, the planning behind making a proffesional looking go of it takes quite a bit of doing, and I'm of the philosopy of "go big or stay at home" type, this may be better left for next year when we can make a proper fund raising activity out of it.

However,if a group wants to get together and go shooting on Sauturday, might still be a good idea, little friendly side competition. Will have the information available Friday night.

We're still looking for donations for the raffle for Saturday, let me know if you have anything, I'll let you know where to send it..

Bob
