Hello everyone, my name is Jeff and I live in Florida. Besides the Hurricanes I have another problem I would like to ask you about. I have had a feeling of something stuck in the back of my mouth for quite sometime maybe a year or two but it comes and goes. When I did feel it I would reach in my mouth with a finger to feel for something but never felt anything. Last week I went to the dentist to have a crown put on. After the dental visit I got the same feeling of something stuck in the back left side of my mouth. This time when I reached in to feel I found something. What I found is a object that is just in front of my tonsil. It is very hard and pointed. I feel no pain when I push on it. And when I feel around it it feels thin but long and somewhat pointed. It feels like it is attached to something deep under the skin but I can't tell. It is about the size of a Nickle but not round. I also have had my ear constantly plugging on that side. I went and saw my Doctor whom said he didn't know what it was, but he did say he wasn't worried about it. Being not the trusting type I decided to visit an ENT as soon as possible. I will see one Monday

I looked and looked but have not found anything that compares to my object.

Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? Or not be?

Jeff,

Were it so easy to diagnose I could have the answer to your hurricanes, also. I can only wish you luck in your visit on Monday, which would include a biopsy, if the ENT were worried.

Very odd indeed. Perhaps a calcium deposit? Allergies? I'm not sure. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reponses, I will definitly tell you how it goes providing Hurricane Ivan doesn't wipe out my power and phone service. (AGAIN)Marica, I had a panic attack at first when the doctor said he didn't know what it was, I instantly had hot flashes. In fact I barely remember anything else he said. I am now coping much better. Will wait and see what the ENT says and plan on taking someone with me this time.

Well now that you shouldn't have to worry about Ivan, like my self you can go on with your processes. I would insist on a biopsy since that's the best way to tell however the irregular shape you discribe does not seem anything to panic over. Most tumors seem to be oval or round.

YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING BY SEEING AN ENT, TRY NOT TO LET IT GET TO YOU. HOPE EVERYTING GOES
GOOD AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT TO LONG TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON.

JR, welcome to the site. Hopefully, you won't need the information normally contained here. Now that we have both, apparently, escaped Ivan, you can concentrate on the issue. By now, you have probably already seen the ENT and have a better idea of what you are facing. Whatever the outcome, one of the sayings on this board is that its not cancer until the pathologist says it is. So don't worry about it. Please let us know what this is about, though, as you will be in many peoples prayers.

Thanks for all the kind words and responces!

Looks like Ivan will pass by my house by about 100 miles or so, still up in the air smile .
That's the good news. My appointment yesterday was rescheduled for today and I just got back a little while ago. I was told that this object is actually coming out of my Tonsil but from way under the skin and just looks like it's in front of it. The ENT didn't bother doing a Biopsy but scheduled me for a CT scan for first thing tomorrow morning and sergury for the 4th of Oct. She is going to remove the tonsil and the object. She doesn't want to speculate about what it might be and after explaining allot of things to me I agreed that this was the right approach. I will have the CT results in a week. They said if the CT looks bad they would move faster. Thats allot to take in a half hour appointment. I will let you know what the results look like.

There was some good things though. She did say it could be allot of different things but removing it is the best thing to do giving it's location. She said if it grew anymore I could be in allot of pain.

She said the surgery would lay me up for a week to 3 weeks.

Well thats about it for now, I am going to try and take this one day at a time.
