I first had radiation and chemotherapy treatment that failed. We found out last April the cancer recurred. I then had an operation which removed the tumor from the base of my tongue and also removed the lymph nodes in my neck. This operation was in June 2006. Severe pain continues. Two MRI and one CT scan tests have been negative for cancer. I had a severe set back last week, when for no apparent reason my lower jaw broke behind my last molar. The doctors say this is either due to severe radiation or the cancer has recurred again. They will be doing a bone biopsy on Monday. If it is positive for cancer the doctors do not show much hope. If it is negative for cancer they are suggesting a major operation. One doctor suggested an outside chance for hyperbaric oxygen therapy to possibly heal the bone. Has anybody out there gone through a similar situation or has any information, as I really need to know more to make a treatment decision. | | |

I haven't had to go through anything like you are going through. I'm sure someone will come along here shortly and help. I just want to say that I pray that it's not a recurrence. There is always hope regardless of what the Drs say. Stay Stong.

I had cancer in my tongue and was not properly advised to have my wisdom teeth removed before I went through radiation. Therefore, the doctors were afraid what is happening to you might happen to me. They put me in a hyperbarric chamber before and after the teeth extraction and all is well today 4+ years after my partial glosectomy and modified neck disection. If you have any specific questions, please let me know. I did not have a reocurrance, but might be able to help you.
