I had BOT surgery on 7/11/2013 and still have quite a bit of swelling. If others have had this about how long did it take for it to subside and is there anything you did to help it along?

32 nodes removed. The swelling is in my mouth. I was hoping after a month it would have gone down more!

Hi Trebs,

It's frustrating I know! The BOT area takes a long time to heal. I'm 15 weeks post Tx and my last exam on the 6th showed continued swelling in the BOT area, throat and vocal chords due to surgery and rads. Give it time. It will get better.

After one month, the swelling should have subsided but not completely gone away after an invasive procedure. It can take months, sometimes even up to an entire year for the swelling to be totally gone.

Removal of the nodes means there's a back up of lymphatic fluid with nowhere to go, you may need lymphatic massage to move things along - are you having rads and chemo? If so I would wait until after. smile
