They saw no apparent signs of cancer. If my cancer is microscopic, or very small would it be causing severe pain? Anyone else have tonsil cancer/tongue cancer that wasn't visible even With removal yet it showed up on pathology?? | | | | Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 421 Likes: 1 Platinum Member (300+ posts) | Platinum Member (300+ posts) Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 421 Likes: 1 | Portland, My ENT was certain I had cancer upon his initial exam and a FNA confirmed. You just had a tonsillectomy and biopsies. Pain from that can be and is severe. Your ENT was confident you didn't have cancer. They don't make blind statements like that if they aren't certain. A tonsillectomy/biopsies as an adult are pretty rough. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. You're going to be in severe pain. Take your meds religiously even if you have to wake up to do so. This will get worse before it gets better. It will ease up in about two weeks and you'll be good as new in about a month. Take a look HERE to learn more about recovering from a tonsillectomy. Good luck with the results! "T"

If I had microscopic cancer would it cause that much pain if it wasn't visible even after Tonsillectomy? | | | | Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 421 Likes: 1 Platinum Member (300+ posts) | Platinum Member (300+ posts) Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 421 Likes: 1 | From the responses previously, many, including myself, had no pain or even a hint that they had cancer. I had a sinus infection and swollen lymph node that didn't respond to two rounds of antibiotics. I didn't have any pain up until the few weeks prior to my second surgery (neck dissection to remove cancerous lymph nodes, lingual tonsillectomy and more biopsies). Even then, it was more discomfort and a fullness due to the growth of the tumors.
You present no such symptoms from your description. While I'm not a doctor, it is apparent your doctors are taking every precaution to insure your well being. As has also been previously stated, experienced physicians don't make positive statements (especially concerning cancer) unless they're fairly certain about them. While you'll have to wait for the pathology to be 100% sure, you can hold onto his statement for hope.
In the mean time, get ready for the tonsillectomy recovery ride. Read the accounts of recovery by day. They were spot on in my case... both times.

I didn't believe them, I was positive I would recover much faster, I was wrong! HA, its a rough ride but the site was surprisingly accurate as to what I was going thru day by day. Now I am having the same problem with recovering from radiation, I just knew I was going to recoup much faster than you guys said. SURPRISE again! HAHA
