Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 1 | Just discovered this forum. Began in January 2013 with dysphagia, Dx with T4,N0 BOT SCC in Feb. Spoke with surgeons locally and at Boston Medical. Decided that removal of tongue was not an option and decided on chemo/radiation protocol at Dana-Faber Cancer Institute beginning on 3/11. Recovery has been slow but fairly uneventful. Had PET and CT scan on 7/19/13. Will get results tomorrow (7/22/13) to determine future. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Dx-2/13 BOT, T4,N0 HPV16
Tx-3/11 6 Cisplatin, 35 XRT

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 5,260 Likes: 3 | Welcome. And good luck tomorrow. Hopefully it's an all clear. Normally for BOT cancer because its usually HPV virus related the do the rads and chemo. Removal of the tongue is very radical surgery particularly if the lesion is not on or in the tongue. Most often BOT cancer is down your throat.  hugs and take care.
